Bargaining Update 3/17

Your CWA Bargaining Team met with Piedmont Airlines this month to continue negotiations towards a fair contract. Here are the latest updates from this bargaining session:
- On Tuesday, March 4th, the Union and the Company began by discussing Article 18: Safety and Health, Article 14: Leaves of Absence, and Article 13: Compensation.
- On Wednesday, March 5th, the Union passed Article 24: General and Miscellaneous. This article currently consists of 28 sub-sections that cover critical items for our members. The Union and the Company have been able to find common ground on all but eight of these items.
- On Thursday, March 6th and Friday, March 7th, the Union and Company exchanged proposals on Articles 14, 24 and 18. After some discussion related to shared facilities in Article 18, we were able to reach a tentative agreement.
To date, we have reached 16 Tentative Agreements, but there is more work to do!
We have 8 outstanding articles: Article 11: Holiday, Article 12: Vacation, Article 13: Compensation, Article 14: Leave of Absence, Article 17: Benefits, Article 24: General and Miscellaneous, Article 27: Part Time, and Article 29: Duration. The Union has also proposed a Labor Advisory Forum, which will provide a platform for local CWA leadership and management to effectively address members’ concerns.
Most importantly, we remain focused on addressing your top priority — improved wages. To date, the Company has not provided sufficient information for us to prepare a counter proposal on Article 13: Compensation. During the February bargaining session, CWA requested a full and complete audit of current wages. We asked that the results of this audit be provided as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the Company did not fulfill our request by the end of this session.
Let us be clear: the Union will not negotiate blindly! We have been clear that the only way to move forward with a counter proposal on wages is by reviewing the information we requested. The delay in getting a contract is the direct result of the Company’s failure to provide the information in full, preventing us from bargaining in good faith.
LET’S STAND STRONG IN SUPPORT OF REACHING A FAIR CONTRACT!
